1995 was a busy year for the technical department of Van Wijngaarden Marine Services with two newbuild vessels delivered: the RIJNSTROOM and the versatile work pontoon MP 1801. The latter vessel is again a ‘special one’, as it were a ‘MultiCat / EuroCarrier’ without OWN propulsion. ‘MP’ stands for multi-purpose, 1801 stands for 18 meters and 1st pontoon.
History
For the client - depending on the project - these two vessels make a beautiful combination. For instance, when the MP 1801 is beneath a ‘cutter’ to change the ‘teeth’, the tugboat can be deployed to transport staff to the port. ‘Two workboats for the price of one’, so to say. The hull construction of the MP1801 took place locally. It was completed by the repair division of Scheepswerf en Machinefabriek ‘De Merwede’. The MP 1801 was to a certain extent a ‘special one’, as it were a ‘MultiCat EuroCarrier’ without OWN propulsion. Perfect when combined with a tugboat.
